This project will approach water as a co-narrator of ecological memory and collective storytelling, drawing on the unique context of the Turku Archipelago. Particular attention will be given to lived relationships with the Baltic Sea—daily practices, currents, seasonal rhythms, and emotional ties. The archipelago itself will shape the questions and forms of the work.

The project unfolds across three interconnected temporal registers: listening to the past through memories shaped by maritime life and language; attending to present urgencies such as pollution, warming waters, species shifts, and the erosion of intangible cultural heritage under climate pressures; and imagining resilient ocean futures grounded in reciprocity and community-led stewardship.

These three layers will form a living archive that includes moving image, underwater and environmental acoustics, and participatory research rooted in the everyday textures of archipelago life. This archive, which will grow over time, is an invitation to listen, reflect, and situate oneself within a shared, cyclical relationship and sense of belonging to the brackish rhythms of the Baltic Sea.

The residency will include opportunities for the public to engage with the artist’s research and creative process. Public presentations will be accompanied by conversations, listening sessions, and informal gatherings that encourage reflection and dialogue.
