TIDAL ArtS Residency Launches Along the Danube in Hungary

Pro Progressione and the Árpád Museum officially launched the Hungarian TIDAL ArtS residency in Ráckeve and Budapest between 18th and 20th May 2026, bringing together artists, scientists, and local community members for the start of an exciting new creative collaboration.

 

Introducing the Artists and Project

Following a two-stage selection process, artists Adam Hudec and Monika Pascoe Mikyšková from the Austria-based Dusts Institute were selected for the residency with their project, Huso Huso.

The project focuses on the Beluga sturgeon (viza) and explores the connection between the natural and cultural heritage of the Danube, Ráckeve, and Csepel Island through artistic practice and scientific research.

As part of the residency, the artists plan to create:

  • A permanent public artwork in Ráckeve
  • A film project
  • Community workshops
  • An exhibition developed together with the Árpád Museum

Community Workshop at the Árpád Museum

The kick-off began on 18 May with an introductory workshop at the Árpád Museum, facilitated by the University of Cork. Around twenty participants attended, including teachers, artists, museum professionals, and local residents.

The session gave participants the opportunity to meet the artists, learn more about Huso Huso, and discuss potential ways of collaborating and contributing to the residency over the coming months.

             

Building Scientific Connections

On 19th May, Pro Progressione and the museum also organised a meeting in Budapest with scientists working in water-related fields such as biology and hydrology.

The gathering helped strengthen the scientific background of the residency and opened up new possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration throughout the project.

Exploring the Danube Region

From 19th to 20th May, the artists took part in site visits around Ráckeve, Szigetbecse, and Szigetújfalu, exploring Danube riverbanks, archaeological locations, and possible exhibition sites both on land and on the water.

Looking Ahead

The artists will return to Hungary in July to continue the field research phase together with local partners as the Huso Huso residency continues to develop.
